Qualtrics Mousetracking

This was a project which started with a researcher at Virginia Tech aiming to collect some more fine-grained data in an online survey platform called Qualtrics. They wanted to keep track of (with consent) the position of the user's mouse as they answered questions. Qualtrics did not have a built-in feature to do this, so I put together some Javascript code and used a workaround in which I stored the position and times as a string, and passed them through Qualtric's built-in embedded data variable.

In the intervening years a number of researchers reached out and made use of the tool, which I would share on an individual basis. Eventually a PhD student expanded on the code, which is open source, and wrote a paper available at the above link.
